St. Joseph Elementary School participates in boys and girls cross country, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls track and field, girls volleyball, and boys sand volleyball as a member of the East Bay Parochial League (EBPL) and the Oakland Diocese Catholic Youth Organization (CYO). Involvement in the sports program fosters a sense of fair play, sportsmanship, and responsibility for one’s actions. Students are provided the opportunity to develop physical abilities, to understand the value of exercise, and to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

In order to participate in the sports program, parents must register their student for the sports program. Participation fees are charged to FACTS accounts and cover sports program costs including equipment, referees, and gym rentals. The annual athletic program cost is $200 for the first student in the family doing multiple sports, $180 for the first student doing only one sport and $150 for each sibling, regardless of the number of sports played. If a student is only running Cross Country or Track & Field then the fee is $75 of each of those sports. This fee includes a rental of a uniform. If the uniform is not received back there is a $50.00 fee.

Parent Volunteers

The sports program depends on enthusiastic parents to help in many ways including coaching, administration, event organizing, and equipment management. If you would like to volunteer to help with the sports program, please contact the office for information.

The Chris Anderson Memorial Scholarship was established by the family of Chris Anderson to help those students who need financial aid to cover the cost of playing sports. Since its founding, the PTG has taken over funding the scholarships to continue the tradition of helping all students participate in the sports program. (Chris Anderson Sports Scholarship Application)
