This year in science, 7th graders will explore geoscience processes such as earthquakes, volcanoes, mountain building and sea floor spreading as evidence for plate tectonics. They will learn about chemical reactions, food chemistry, conservation of mass, and how the periodic table is organized based on the properties of elements. Other topics include how the processes of photosynthesis and cellular respiration happen, the role of macromolecules in digestion, population ecology and diversity, ecosystem interactions such as food webs and symbiosis, endangered species and extinction, and nutrient recycling through the carbon and nitrogen cycles. Students will work in a collaborative classroom environment as they share ideas and engage in project-based learning. Seventh graders will also participate in science fair week and the school science fair, as well as Science Buddies, a special program with kindergartners.
