Enrollment

St. Joseph Elementary School’s enrollment is approximately 270 students representing about 235 families. Of the students, roughly 74% are Catholic.  Non-Catholic students include those of various faiths, including other Christian religions as well as Judaism. The school’s cultural family is made up of 46% Caucasian, 17% Asian, 10% Hispanic, 8% African American, and 17% other.  Of the student population, 47% are male and 53% are female. As the school has been part of the Alameda community since 1881, quite a number of students are second- or third-generation St. Joseph students.

Faculty

The faculty and staff are dedicated to educating and nurturing the whole child by offering a time-honored and challenging Catholic education.

The staff at St. Joseph includes nine classroom teachers, as well as a full-time science and art teacher and part-time teachers in music and physical education.  Fourteen staff members are credentialed and seven staff members hold Masters degrees. The staff also includes seven full-time teacher assistants and an administrative staff consisting of one full-time bookkeeper, one full-time administrative assistant, and two full-time office assistants.  The extended care program has three staff members in addition to the director.

Calendar

The school year is divided into three twelve-week trimesters.  Classes meet Monday through Friday from 7:50am to 2:40pm.

Campus

The St. Joseph Elementary School shares a campus with the St. Joseph Parish and the St. Joseph Notre Dame High School. The elementary school has a main two-story classroom building that includes a large common area for regular gatherings and special events.  The elementary school has an outdoor playground and shares the recently renovated gymnasium and music room with the St. Joseph Notre Dame High School.

Accreditation

The St. Joseph Elementary School is accredited by the Western Catholic Educational Association (WCEA) and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).
